Jim Furyk entered Sunday’s final round of the W.G.C.-Bridgestone Invitational with a one-stroke lead, hoping to overcome some lingering disappointment from his final-round collapse at the United States Open in June.
He found heartbreak instead.
Teeing off on No. 18 with a one-stroke advantage, Furyk needed only a bogey to secure a playoff after watching Keegan Bradley save par on No. 18, completing a rally from a six-shot deficit. Furyk came up short, finishing with a double bogey and securing the victory for Bradley, whose four-round total was 13-under 267.
“I just felt so strong coming down the stretch,” said Bradley, whose slow-rolling 16-footer for par sealed his final-round 64, which beat Furyk and Steve Stricker by a stroke. “Most of all, I just enjoyed every minute of it.”
