What's In The Winner's Golf Bag: Sang Moon Bae at The 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship - Great Golf Deals.com Blog May 20, 2013 By Steve W.
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Sang-Moon Bae won the Byron Nelson Championship on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title, beating Keegan Bradley by two strokes after blowing a four-stroke lead. The 26-year-old South Korean closed with a 1-under 69 to finish at 13-under 267. Bradley was trying to become the Nelson's first wire-to-wire winner since Tom Watson in 1980. Bradley set the TPC Four Seasons course record with an opening 60 even with two bogeys, but finished with a 72 on a day with wind gusting to near 40 mph at times. Bae already had 11 international victories — winning on the Korea, Japan and Asian tours. Four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front nine gave Bae a four-stroke advantage in the final group. But he struggled in the middle of the round, making a double bogey at No. 9 and a bogey at the next hole.

What's In The Winner's Golf Bag: Tiger Woods at The 2013 Players Championship - Great Golf Deals.com Blog May 12, 2013 By David K.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — As the Players Championship wound down Sunday, there were as many compelling stories on the leader board as there were golf balls in the water surrounding the tournament’s signature hole, the par-3 17th. The players who held at least a share of the final-round lead included Jeff Maggert, a 49-year-old trying to win his fourth PGA Tour event in his 586th start, and David Lingmerth, who had a 74-foot birdie putt to get into his second playoff in 13 tour starts. And there were the headliners and sparring partners, Sergio Garcíaand Tiger Woods, who were separated for the fourth round but tied late in the round. By the end of the day, the great stories had fallen away and the greatest active player stood alone. Woods, summoning the kind of steely golf that eluded his closest competitors down the stretch, won for the 78th time in 286 tour starts as a professional. On a warm, breezy day, Woods carded a two-under-par 70 for a 72-hole total of 13-under 275, two strokes better than Maggert (70), Lingmerth (72) and Kevin Streelman (67).

Our Callaway X Hot Driver Review - Great Golf Deals.com Blog May 7, 2013 By David K.
When you think of the brand Callaway what's the first thing that normally comes to mind? If you're like most people probably the word "Big Bertha" comes to mind first - their iconic metal wood which revolutionized the metal driver and fairway wood market back in the early 90s'. The introduction of the Big Bertha launched Callaway Golf to the forefront of golf equipment technology and established them as a leader in metal woods category. Unfortunately for Callaway, for the past decade, it has lost it's way and for a number of years has had a hard time breaking through the crowded driver/metal woods market which it dominated in the 90's and early 2000s. That is until now. With new leadership and a new aggressive attitude and marketing campaign Callaway is back and back "Big Time" with its new 2013 offerings. But an aggressive attitude and marketing campaign will only take you so far - you still need the product to perform and boy does the Callaway X Hot driver perform! ...Click to Continue Reading This Article
What's In The Winner's Golf Bag: Derek Ernst at The 2013 Wells Fargo Championship - Great Golf Deals.com Blog May 5, 2013 By David K.
CHARLOTTE — In a strange week featuring battered greens, Vijay Singh being cleared of a drug violation by the PGA Tour and a viewer calling in an alleged violation on Sergio Garcia, it was fitting the winner of the Wells Fargo Championship turned out to be Derek Ernst. He was ranked 1,207th in the world rankings at the start of the week. He was headed to Georgia to play in a Web.com Tour event but turned his car around when he got into the Wells Fargo as the fourth alternate. And then the 22-year-old PGA Tour rookie beat David Lynn in a playoff. "This feeling is unbelievable right now," said Ernst, who last won in a college tournament last year. "All week long my swing felt good, mental game was good. The big thing was, what I said all week long is, I got out of my own way, and it paid off for now."

What's In The Winner's Golf Bag: Billy Horschel at The 2013 New Orleans Zurich Classic - Great Golf Deals.com Blog April 29, 2013 By Kevin L.
AVONDALE, La. -- Billy Horschel sensed the time had come for him to win his first PGA Tour event. This could explain the composure he displayed in the face of two final-round weather delays and a 27-foot putt he had to make on the final hole to avert a playoff. Horschel tied a course record at the TPC Louisiana with an 8-under 64 in the final round of the Zurich Classic on Sunday, which was good enough to win by one stroke over D.A. Points. Points put pressure on Horschel by hitting out of a bunker to set up a 5-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th. Then Horschel rolled in his long victory-sealing putt, pumping his arms and letting out a triumphant yell before sinking into a crouch and briefly pulling his cap over his face as the crowd roared.

For all the big moments in Graeme McDowell's career, his resume was short on PGA Tour victories. McDowell relished what he called his first authentic tour win, defeating fellow U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson in a playoff at the RBC Heritage on Sunday. McDowell's been at the centre of some of golf's biggest moments, from his rousing triumph at Pebble Beach in 2010 to capturing the winning point for Europe in that year's Ryder Cup matches. He has six European PGA victories, too, but he hadn't triumphed in the weekly grind of the world's top tour. "This game kicks you more often than it gives you a pat on the back," McDowell said. "It's hard to win."
Not on this day for McDowell, who pushed forward on wind-blown Harbour Golf Links when his rivals were moving backward, unnerved by the 20 to 30 mph winds that rattled the course.

Adidas - TaylorMade Turning Out New Shoes Almost As Fast As New Drivers - New adicross Tour Golf Shoes - Great Golf Deals.com Blog April 17, 2013 By Steve W.
TaylorMade/ Adidas Golf Corporation has for a long time been criticized for coming out with a new driver which seems like every other month leavng your recently purchased driver obsolete and sitting in the discount bin. Now after debuting the ground-breaking adizero Tour golf shoes earlier this year they are coming out with yet another new tour-level shoe that is that is even more ground-breaking than their previous. Do you buy into the hype and have to get the latest or are you tired of companies coming out with new and innovative stuff only to be replaced and obsolete within a few months as they come out with something new?

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Adam Scott finished the job this time, and put an end to more than a half-century of Australian misery at the Masters. With the two biggest putts of his career, Scott holed a 20-footer for birdie on the 18th hole of regulation that put him into a playoff with Angel Cabrera, and then won his first major championship Sunday with a 12-footer for birdie on the second extra hole. "We like to think we’re the best at everything. Golf is a big sport at home, and this is the one thing in golf we hadn’t been able to achieve," Scott said. "It’s amazing that it’s my destiny to be the first Australian to win. It’s incredible." Scott leaned back and thrust his arms in the air after the putt dropped on the 10th hole, a celebration for all of Australia and personal redemption for himself. It was only last summer when Scott threw away the British Open by making bogey on his last four holes to lose by one shot to Ernie Els. The 32-year-old handled that crushing defeat with dignity and pledged to finish stronger given another chance. "Next time -- I’m sure there will be a next time -- I can do a better job of it," he said that day.
Scott was close to perfect, and he had to be with Cabrera delivering some brilliance of his own.

SAN ANTONIO TX. – Rory McIlroy had struggled enough to lose the world's top ranking, prompting his caddie to suggest playing the Texas Open to get some more preparation in before the Masters. McIlroy heeded the advice and played his best golf in what has so far been a dreadful start to the season.
"I feel like my game's in really good shape going into next week," he said after a final-round 66 on Sunday. "A round like that gives me a nice bit of confidence." Trouble is he ran into Martin Laird on one of the finest days of the Scotsman's career. McIlroy and Laird showed an impeccable sense of timing Sunday during a back-nine duel in San Antonio — especially considering it was the final competitive round both will play prior to the first major of the season. McIlroy knew he was headed to Augusta National before arriving in San Antonio, while Laird didn't. Laird finally found what he was looking for after six months on the driving range, shooting a course-record 63 in the final round — a bogey-free effort that put him two shots clear of the resurgent McIlroy at 14 under.
"I came in here quietly confident, even though my record this year has been poor, to say the least," Laird said. "But golf's a funny game ... doesn't matter what you did two weeks ago. It turns around pretty quickly."

What's In The Winner's Golf Bag: D.A. Points at The 2013 Shell Houston Open - Great Golf Deals.com Blog April 1, 2013 By Kevin L.
HUMBLE, Texas (AP) -- The Masters was always on D.A. Points' mind, even with the start of his year going nowhere. He took care of that with one clutch putt.
Points sank a 13-footer to save par on the 72nd hole Sunday, winning the rain-delayed Houston Open by one stroke over Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel. Points' only other victory came with actor Bill Murray at his side at Pebble Beach in 2011. This one earned him an invitation to the Masters in two weeks and a two-year exemption, unexpected bonuses after missing seven cuts in his first nine starts this year. ''I never doubt that I can do it,'' Points said. ''I certainly get down and frustrated when I make two of nine cuts. That's not making you feel real great about yourself.'' No matter how he played in Houston, he was planning to play in next week's Texas Open, too. Now, at least he won't have to worry about winning there. ''I never thought that I wasn't going to make it (to Augusta),'' Points said. ''I just thought this is an opportunity, just like next week.''

Our Review Of The Nike VR_S Covert Driver - Great Golf Deals.com Blog March 26, 2013 By Kevin L. I predict 2013 will be the year of the “Driver” in golf. As golfers, we are blessed with a lot of choices this year and the golf equipment manufacturers went all out in designing what they hope will be a top-selling driver for 2013.
Now I have to admit that most of the new drivers have only incremental changes from the previous year. This includes maybe a minor tweak in head design, weight and COG placement, club head color and shaft offerings. But this year, Nike takes the crown for the most radical changes to their driver line with the new Nike VR_S Covert Driver.

Tiger Woods, who has spent 623 weeks at No. 1 in the world, will return to the top spot for the first time in 29 months after his victory Monday in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
Woods held off Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose in the continuation of the final round, which was halted Sunday when wind, rain and lightning forced a suspension of play. Woods and Fowler had played two holes Sunday, and Woods led by three shots when they teed off at No. 3 on Monday.
Fowler kept the pressure on on the back nine, until he knocked two balls in the water on the par-5 16h on his way to a triple bogey.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Kevin Streelman was ready to abandon his hopes of playing on the PGA Tour, and even that didn't go right.
After two years of plodding through the mini-tours, he noticed a job opening as the assistant golf coach at Duke, his alma mater. Streelman was one of two finalists for the position, and he even went to North Carolina to interview. It went to the other guy. And that's when his fortunes started to change, thanks to a chance meeting 10 years ago with a Masters champion. "I remember I got told Friday I didn't get the job," Streelman said. "My dad gave me $400 to play the qualifier for the Western Open, I made a long putt on the last hole to get in and on the next day I'm in the locker room. And Mike Weir's locker is next to mine." He nervously asked Weir if they could play a practice round together. Weir showed him how to use the yardage book and all the other nuances of playing on the PGA Tour. Streelman missed the cut, but saw enough out of Weir to figure out where he needed to get better, and to realize his game really wasn't as far off as he imagined.

In the past, golf shoes were more like dress shoes with either a saddle or wing-tip design, with hard leather soles and spikes. While I admit they did look good, they just were not that functional and were definitely not fun to walk in. Today’s golf shoes have come full circle by taking clues from the casual and athletic shoe market. The new rage in the marketplace is the “spikeless” golf shoe that can be worn on or off the course. They have been taking the industry by storm because they are so comfortable and multi-functional. It would seem that spiked shoes are going by the wayside. But this year with 2 new spiked shoe offerings from Adidas and Nike these new shoes are going to give the spikeless golf shoes a run for their money.

DORAL, FLA.
Tiger Woods is hitting his stride on a march to the Masters.
Woods had full control of his game Sunday and never let anyone get closer than three shots until he had locked up his 17th World Golf Championship title. With a conservative bogey that didn't matter on the final hole, he closed with a 1-under 71 to win the Cadillac Championship. It was one year ago at Doral that Woods withdrew after 11 holes in the final round because of tightness in his left Achilles tendon, creating uncertainty about his health and whether he could ever get his game back.
False alarm.
Woods has won five times in the last year, the most of anyone in the world, and he can return to No. 1 with a win at Bay Hill in two weeks.

2013 is tuning out to be the year of the adjustable driver and Cobra does not disappoint
with its latest offerings. Cobra's latest driver line is named the AMP Cell which includes MyFly technology in the hosel combined with the SmartPad technology in the sole. While these new terms may sound perplexing, it is really straightforward. There are 6 different loft settings in the MyFly adjustable hosel. Each loft setting works without needing to do
anything else to the club as a
result of "SmartPad" sole technology. This keeps the club square at address regardless
of what loft setting you select. What Cobra offers this year that no one else does is a choice
of 4 fresh colors: orange, blue, red or silver to customize your driver. (Women have a couple of other
options, plus an offset model in yet another color that
matches the baffler set).

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The cold wind that buffeted the Honda Classic left a trail of debris. It creased the shiny image of the world No. 1, Rory McIlroy, who abruptly gave up the defense of his title in the middle of the second round. It whipped Tiger Woods, the world No. 2, like a pin flag. By Sunday’s conclusion, the leader board was so topsy-turvy that it produced a winner who had finished dead last in the field in his previous start.
“The Northern Trust was a good thing in my life,” Thompson said. “It allowed me to focus on what I needed to do to play like I did this week.”
The missed cut was Thompson’s third in four starts. With two months of the shortened 2013 season gone, he had made $10,919, which was not enough to cover his expenses. Upon returning to his home in Birmingham, Ala., Thompson spoke with his wife, Rachel, and his longtime swing coach, Susan Berdoy Meyers. He shared with them his worst fear: that he wouldn’t make another cut this year and would lose his PGA Tour playing privileges.

MARANA, Ariz. — The desert weather was capricious, delivering snow on the first day and biting 30-mile-an-hour wind gusts on the last. Then there was the format at the Accenture Match Play Championship, which produced several winners so unpredictable the best way to pick them was out of a hat.
Conquering the most fickle of tournaments was a player known for his constancy. Matt Kuchar, owner of an unchanging swing, an unshakable smile and an unflappable game, handed the defending champion, Hunter Mahan, a 2-and-1 defeat in the final Sunday at Dove Mountain. It was the first All-American championship match since Tiger Woods defeated Stewart Cink, 8 and 7, in 2008.

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — From the tee box, the 10th hole at Riviera Country Club looks like another vanilla par 4 on the PGA Tour, a 315-yard test that is no match for today’s generation of swashbuckling players.
John Merrick after his victory in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club. He said, "To get a win in my hometown, it’s amazing, it’s a dream come true."
Bill Haas, the third-round leader at Riviera Country Club, wound up missing a playoff by one shot and tying for third.
The hole, and the player who tamed it to win the Northern Trust Open, are proof that looks can be deceiving. Before Sunday, John Merrick might have been hard for the average golf fan to pick out in a threesome waiting to tee off.

October 31, 2012 by Kevin L. If you are like me, you might have been curious when you found out TaylorMade Golf was adding an additional model to the highlly succesfful RocketBallz driver line. The most recent offering is referred to as the RocketBallz "Bonded" Driver, and if you’re asking yourself why the “bonded” name, you’re not alone. Basically, the new RBZ Driver is a fixed hosel version of the original RBZ Driver. Therefore, the club head is actually “bonded” or glued to the shaft and cannot be adjusted like the original. If that sounds like a step backwards to you, given the adjustability popularity that has taken over the driver category this season and figures to continue through 2013, you may be half right. There’s nothing especially “new” here....Click to Continue Reading This Article

Watney, a two-time winner last year, wrapped up his first title in 13 months with a 10-foot birdie on the final green, his faith in his putting restored by a Long Island club professional who tweaked his setup during a lesson at the beginning of the tournament week.
